HRACO Diversity Definition:
"Diversity is achieved by recognizing, valuing, understanding, respecting and including the differences in ethnicity, abilities, culture, education, gender, age, sexual orientation and the religion of others in the workplace to attain the mission of the organization."
SHRM Diversity Definition:
"To celebrate diversity is to appreciate and value individual differences. SHRM strives to be the leader in promoting workplace diversity. Although the term is often used to refer to differences based on ethnicity, gender, age, religion, disability, national origin and sexual orientation, diversity encompasses an infinite range of individuals' unique characteristics and experiences, including communication styles, physical characteristics such as height and weight, and speed of learning and comprehension."
Diversity Committee
Mission Statement
- To identify, evaluate and respond to diversity issues within the membership.
- To present programs and promote activities that furthers the understanding of individual and group diversity.
- To increase and maintain diversity within the membership by actively recruiting minorities for membership and promoting interaction between people of various backgrounds through special programs.
- To ensure compliance with SHRM diversity initiatives and to work with the HRACO board to suggest policies and promote values that support diversity.
The Diversity Committee is designed to help target and act upon various Diversity related initiatives. This group compiles information for monthly Diversity Corner page in the newsletter and website, and initiates and coordinates diversity activities, seminars and programs.
